Old Fashioned Pancakes Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract (if using) until well combined.
- Combine Ingredients:
- Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Gently stir the mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be a little lumpy.
- Preheat the Griddle:
- Heat a lightly oiled griddle or large frying pan over medium heat. You can test if it’s ready by sprinkling a few drops of water on the surface; they should sizzle and evaporate immediately.
- Cook the Pancakes:
- Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the griddle for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancakes and the edges begin to look set, about 2-3 minutes. Flip the pancakes and cook the other side until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes more.
- Serve:
- Serve the pancakes hot with butter and syrup, or your favorite toppings such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or powdered sugar.
Tips:
- For extra fluffy pancakes, let the batter rest for about 5 minutes before cooking.
- Avoid pressing down on the pancakes with your spatula after flipping; this can cause them to become dense rather than fluffy.
- Keep pancakes warm in a low oven (200°F/95°C) while you finish cooking the rest.
Enjoy your delicious, fluffy old-fashioned pancakes with your favorite breakfast sides!
